Letter from the Editors
November 27, 2014
Dear Ma’ayanot Community,
Welcome to a new year, to a new volume of The Source. We are delighted to have the opportunity to share Ma’ayanot news and features with you in what we hope is an enjoyable format.
Over the summer, we, along and with our talented staff, brainstormed how to enrich The Source and the sharing of Ma’ayanot news. Within the newspaper, you will see two new columns: a science column, called “SciSplash,” and an advice column, both of which were created with our readers in mind. As a girls high school that takes pride in its expanding science curriculum, we decided that it would be apt for The Source to dedicate a column to science, especially in a world that increasingly emphasizes STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathermatics) for women. The new advice column addresses another critical aspect of Ma’ayanot -- its desire to help make each student feel comfortable by providing necessary assistance. Students will have the opportunity to anonymously email a short letter or inquiry for a particular piece of advice to our advice columnist, Shantalle the Ma’ayanot Sidekick, who will provide a thoughtful and helpful recommendation to be featured in the newspaper’s next issue. These two additions to The Source are sure to enhance our readers’ experience and complement their interests.
But, we did not stop with just these in-print additions; with the creation of a website, we made The Source into a more accessible and current news outlet. The Source website will not merely feature a copy of the newspaper. Instead, our newly assembled online and tech staff will write articles specifically for the website and post them within a few hours. The news will be fresh, the turn-around time shorter; these headlines are not to be missed. The Source website, The Source Online, will contain hot-off-the-press information, fulfilling its goal to be a premier source of news.
On behalf of the entire staff, we invite you to open the newspaper and read. Enjoy the articles featured inside, take a look every couple of days for headlines on our website, ask our advice columnist some questions, and maybe even write a letter in response to an article. If you have any questions or wish to provide feedback, please email maayanotsource@gmail.com.
Best,
Eliana Krim and Shoshana Marder, Editors-in-Chief
